Should mods be verified before loading?

Figured I'd put up a discussion about this.

There are a lot of websites out there that illegally distribute minecraft mods. Some of them even mess with them and include bloatware, spyware, and viruses. That's why I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to have have mods verified before trying to run them, to try and catch any that have been modified by a third party.

So what are peoples thoughts on this? Good, bad, impossible?
